Natural Baby Skin Care Ideas

You may have a baby with sensitive skin. If this is the case, it is likely that your baby does not respond well to regular skin care products. Even if your baby does not have sensitive skin, you may be looking for either a cheaper alternative to expensive baby skin care products, or a natural way to cleanse your baby. Here are some ideas for natural baby skin care.

Basic Ideas

Instead of using harsh chemical cleansers, try using your own natural baby skin care items. If your baby has dry skin, instead of putting lotion on it, use olive oil. It will add oils and moisture to the skin and reduce the dryness. In addition, olive oil also helps diaper rash. This can be great if your child has reactions to other diaper rash creams. Also, instead of using baby powders that are perfumed and scented, try using one hundred percent pure cornstarch. This natural baby skin care product is better for the baby’s skin and the baby’s lungs. It is also much cheaper than most baby powders as well!

Baby Wipes

Baby wipes are products that every parent to an infant or toddler needs. However, they can be expensive, and often times even the unscented or “natural” wipes that you purchase in stores can still irritate your baby’s behind. Instead, try mixing one forth cup of olive oil or baby oil with two cups of water. Add one forth cup of baby shampoo. Make sure that you use unscented or natural baby shampoo if your child has sensitive skin. To finish your natural baby skin care baby wipes, cut a roll of paper towels in half and take out the cardboard roll in the center. Either put them in an empty baby wipes container or in a large ziploc bag. Pour the soap/oil mixture over the wipes, and now you have some natural, home made baby wipes!

Diaper Rash Cream

One of the baby items that parents most want to have a natural baby skin care item for is diaper rash cream. You may use a natural herbal skin care product instead of the diaper rash creams sold in stores, but this is also a great idea. You will need one teaspoon of mineral oil, one teaspoon of cornstarch, two teaspoons of zinc oxide ointment, and two teaspoons of antibiotic ointment. All of these should be found in your grocery store or pharmacy. To make the diaper rash cream, combine the mineral oil with the cornstarch. Stir it until it forms a paste. Next, add the zinc oxide and antibiotic ointment. Store the mixture in a tupperware container.
